LEAF is now seeking a College and Career Advisor.

This part-time position requires expertise in guiding students and families in their pursuit of postsecondary education. Advisors are proficient in the areas of postsecondary education options, admissions, and financial aid. Services are performed at specific high schools with individual students.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Successfully completes orientation and the Advisor training program (50 hours throughout the year)
  • Guides the student in the postsecondary admissions process, such as school search, selection, and applications, career search, and entrance exams.
  • Works with students and families at their assigned high school(s) to educate and assist with admission and financial aid information in their pursuit of a postsecondary education and/or career path.
  • Participates in or presents at relevant events such as: College Fairs, Career Days, Parent Nights, Financial Aid Nights, FAFSA Filing Nights at assigned high school(s).
  • Guides the students in accessing all financial aid resources, such as exams and admissions fee waivers, FAFSA, scholarship searches, financial aid offer letter advising, and loan options.
  • Supports students who are exploring career options, advising on the requirements of career choices, financial implications, and appropriate post-high school education choices.
  • Acquires and maintains the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties of an effective Advisor, including postsecondary admissions requirements and FAFSA updates.
  • Attend Articulation and monthly Advisor meetings.
  • Maintains accurate student data and confidentiality of records.

Qualifications:

A minimum associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience in counseling/advising, financial aid, or student services is desirable. LEAF will provide extensive training prior to Advisor assignment to an in-school setting. Ability to proficiently utilize Google G-Suite. Ability to work individually, remotely, and onsite (in school and in the office at Lakeland Community College). Must be fingerprinted and cleared through an FBI/BCI background check.

Geographical Area:

Available schools in Lake and Cuyahoga Counties.
